چکیده
The ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi, ranking among the 100 most damaging bioinvaders in world, is a major predator of zooplankton, known to alter biodiversity and functioning ecosystems which it has been introduced. This first survey on trophic relationships M. leidyi Mediterranean lagoon (Berre, South France) was performed through stable isotope analyses. Carbon nitrogen composition used (1) determine types prey ingested by this (2) influence individual size its composition, (3) make assumptions explore with native jellyfish Aurelia sp.. two gelatinous species mainly (79% 97% diet) planktonic (copepods, cirriped nauplii, gastropod larvae cladocerans), but also preyed upon benthic organisms (mainly harpacticoid copepods amphipod Monocorophium insidiosum) lower proportions (2.5% 21%). Size-related changes diet were evidenced an increase level consumption larger individuals. These probably play important underestimated role benthic–pelagic coupling coastal lagoons transferring organic matter pelagic food webs.

Impact of a river flash flood on microbial carbon and nitrogen production in a Mediterranean Lagoon (Thau Lagoon, France)
Over half of the total nitrogen, phosphorus, silicate and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) loading was discharged from the Vène River into the Thau Lagoon waters within the first five days of what was considered to be the autumn flash flood period. Such loads represented about 8% and 3% of the yearly averaged total nitrogen and phosphorus load in Thau Lagoon, respectively. Although this event aff...
متن کاملSpecific immune priming in the invasive ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi.
Specific immune priming enables an induced immune response upon repeated pathogen encounter. As a functional analogue to vertebrate immune memory, such adaptive plasticity has been described, for instance, in insects and crustaceans. However, towards the base of the metazoan tree our knowledge about the existence of specific immune priming becomes scattered. Here, we exposed the invasive ctenop...
متن کاملSpatial heterogeneity in the food web of a heavily modified Mediterranean coastal lagoon: stable isotope evidence
We investigated the food web structure of the Salses-Leucate Lagoon (northwestern Mediterranean) through δ13C and δ15N analysis of its benthic macrofauna and potential food sources. This lagoon was heavily human-modified during the 1970s, allowing permanent exchange with the open sea and an increase in salinity from that time. As a result, it exhibits a much less marked salinity gradient than t...
متن کاملCoupling of carbon, nitrogen and oxygen cycles in sediments from a Mediterranean lagoon: a seasonal perspective
Experimental data and simulations were used to investigate the seasonal coupling between carbon, nitrogen and oxygen cycles in marine sediments from a eutrophic shallow lagoon in the Mediterranean Sea area. A negative seasonal correlation was observed between oxygen consumption and coupled nitrification–denitrification rates in surface sediments. Elevated values of oxygen consumption rates were...
متن کاملTrace Elements and Carbon and Nitrogen Stable Isotopes in Organisms from a Tropical Coastal Lagoon
Trace elements (Fe, Mn, Al, Zn, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd, Hg, and As) and stable isotope ratios (delta(13)C and delta(15)N) were analyzed in sediments, invertebrates, and fishes from a tropical coastal lagoon influenced by iron ore mining and processing activities to assess the differences in trace element accumulation patterns among species and to investigate relations with trophic levels of the org...
